SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Southwest Marine Boat Services has given the king of the sea, Neptune, a nose job. The new configuration will allow the boat to carry a larger load. Other additions to the vessel, used for bar
Owner of Southwest Marine Boat Services, Jeff Berzinis, and his crew have removed the old rake or scow-type bow, from Neptune, taking 4 feet off and added the new 14-foot section, for an overall gain of 10 feet.
“It pushed a lot of water and it wasn’t quite long enough. When we first built the boat we didn’t have a clue what our market would be or what our niche would be,” Mr. Berzinis said. “Over the last nine years we realized what we wanted to be and how we could take care of the customers better.”
The new configuration will give Neptune increased load capacity but it also has a lot more streamline shape to it, which will enable it to handle rougher water. And it won’t plow through the water as much. “The architect determined that it will probably add 1.2 to 1 knot in speed under the same RPMs on the engine,” said Mr. Berzinis.
